VRNJACKA BANJA
Vrnjacka Banja (alt. 230 m.a.s.l.) is in the central part of Serbia,
about 200 km south of Belgrade, on the wooded foothills Goc Mountain(1,147
m). Vrnjacka Banja is well-connected with all parts of the country by road
and rail (Belgrade-Nis motorway and railway and the Ibar highway). The local
climate is temperate continental climate and somewhat sub-Alpine because of
the surrounding mountains. It has a long history as a natural health resort
and recreational centre, and it is among the best frequented resorts in the
country. It abounds in cultural events and entertainment throughout the
year.
The surroundings of Vrnjacka Banja abound in historical monuments,
including the nearby medieval Serbian Zica and Ljubostinja monasteries (13th
and 14th century respectively) and the Lazarica Church (14th century), among
others.
The spa has three mineral water springs, on which one has warm water
and two have cold water. According to international standards, the local
mineral waters can be divided into two categories:
- warm mineral water of human body temperature (36.5 C), alkaline,
carbonic
acid homeothermal variety, used for drinking and bathing;
- cold mineral water from Sneznik spring (17 C), alkaline carbonic acid
akrotopegic variety, used for drinking.
MEDICAL INDICATIONS: The spa is recommended for the treatment of:
diseases of the gastro-intestinal tract, diseases of the hepatobiliary tract
and pancreas, metabolic disorders, diseases of the kidney and the urinary
tract and cardiovascular conditions.
ACCOMMODATION: In numerous hotels, spa establishments for
hospitalisation, rest centres and private rooms, totalling 10.000 beds. |
