Savicevic out of Yugoslav team for Euro 2000
Belgrade, May 10 - Dejan Savicevic, player of Austrian Rapid and one of the
mainstays of the Yugoslav national team, will miss the Euro 2000
finals in June because of injury, Yugoslav Football Federation
General Secretary Branko Bulatovic said in Wednesday.
Savicevic got injury during the Austrian football championship match between Rapid and Sturm.
"Savicevic informed us that he had a muscle injury and would
be out of training for at least three weeks," Bulatovic said.
"He told us that as things stood it would not be fair for
him to take the place of a younger player in the finals," he
added.
Playmaker Savicevic, who has 56 caps and scored 20 goals for
the national team, has been plagued by injuries in the past two
years and performed poorly in the World Cup finals in France in
1998.
