Quarter-final - a realistic reach

Savo Milosevic, best Yugoslavia's player and scorer

Belgrade, June 26thYugoslav national football team, which participated at the 11th European Championship in Belgium and Netherlands, returned to Belgrade this evening.

"I know that many people are disappointed. However, European Championship in Belgium and Netherlands should be forgotten as soon as possible and all attention should be focused on the forthcoming qualifications for the World Championship in 2002 in South Korea and Japan," said among other things Predrag Mijatovic.

"Eighth place in Europe is our realistic standing", said Ljubinko Drulovic.

According to his words, there are four really prime teams left in the Championship - Netherlands, Italy, France and Portugal.

Other members of our national team also admit they were disgraced in the quarterfinal match against one of the host selection of "EURO 2000". They also remind that before the "blue team", four former champions of the "Old continent" were also eliminated from the championship - England, Germany, Czech Republic and Denmark.

London, June 26th - "European Brazil", as British sports commentators tend to call Yugoslav national team, did not manage to find solution for the dynamic play of Netherlands, estimates today British press.

Former Dutch national team player, Ruud Gulit, in his interview to British television station "ITV", reminded that Yugoslavia was an extremely good team.

Major problem with Yugoslav national team, as Gulit holds, was the fact that one never knows how they will play, they can disappoint and they can excel.

With no regards to the defeat by Netherlands, Yugoslav national team will be remembered for their excellent football technique, as British commentators pointed out.

Savo Milosevic is especially mentioned in the press, as a player who finally proved his unique quality on international scene.

Brussels, June 26th - UEFA said its technical study group reviewed videotapes of the quarterfinal match of "EURO 2000" between Netherlands and Yugoslavia (6:1) and decided that Patrick Kluivert did not score a goal in 51st minute but that Yugoslav player Dejan Govedarica put the ball into his own net.

Therefore, UEFA admitted only three scores to Kluivert in this match, so that the Dutch national team player is no longer leading scorer of the 11th European Championship, but he shares the first place with Yugoslav Savo Milosevic - they both scored five goals each.

Leading goalscorers after quarter-finals matches of EURO 2000:

5 - Savo Milosevic (Yugoslavia) and Patrick Kluivert (Netherlands)

3 - Zlatko Zahovic (Slovenia), Sergio Konceicao and Nuno Gomes (both from Portugal)...
