Valletta, Malta/Krusevac, Yugoslavia, August 10 - In the UEFA Cup Qualifying Round first leg match, the Maltese Sliema Wanderers defeated the Belgrade Partizan 2-1 (1-1) this evening in Valletta.
Partizan were disappointment to all their fans since they have been defeated by an outsider from Malta. The host team took lead in the 10th minute with a goal from Sylla. When Sasa Ilic scored the equalizer for Partizan in the 25th minute, it seemed that the guests would finally be the ones to celebrate the victory. However, 36-year-old Busuttil created a sensation by scoring a goal in the 72nd minute.
In contrast to Partizan, Napredak excited their fans, defeating Estonian Tulevik 5-1.
Yugoslav Cup runners-up Napredak ran up a nap hand in a superb
performance against hapless Estonians JK Tulevik Viljandi to make
qualification for the UEFA Cup First Round a virtual certainty. Branislav Kojicic
was in brilliant form, blasting a hat-trick.
Belic makes early breakthrough
Napredak were soon in control, and Dejan Belic fired them into the lead after
only four minutes. From that moment on, the visitors were ran off their feet,
and Dejan Belic added a second after 20 minutes.
Tulevik were lambs to the slaughter, and the inspired Kojicic made it 3-0 after
23 minutes. A fourth goal arrived just before the interval, when Belic held off
several feeble challenges and gave Kojicic his second goal.
At least Tulevik gave themselves some consolation by pulling a goal back in
48 minutes, Dmitri Ustritski finding the target in a rare Estonian attack.
However, the home side were not yet finished, and ten minutes from time they
grabbed a fifth goal. Nikola Vuckovic was fouled in the area, and Kojicic
rapped home the penalty to complete his hat-trick.
