LEICESTER CITY (England) - RED STAR Belgrade (Yugoslavia) 1-1

Leicester had not conceded a goal in open play in five premier league games this season but found themselves behind after 47 seconds when Milenko Acimovic's 30-metre shot dipped over Leicester keeper Tim Flowers.

The 21-times Yugoslav champions, who lost on away goals to Dynamo Kiev in the final qualifying round of the Champions League, were always dangerous on the break and should have increased their lead in the 39th minute. But Goran Drulic's rising shot deflected off Flowers and over the bar.

Leicester quickly capitalised on their good fortune by drawing level four minutes later. Northern Ireland international defender Gerry Taggart was left unchallenged to head high into the net from Neil Lennon's free-kick.

Red Star had defender Stevo Glogovac sent off in the 76th minute for a second yellow card. And they were indebted to goalkeeper Aleksandar Kocic for denying Leicester a 78th-minute winner with a save from substitute Stan Collymore.

PARTIZAN Belgrade (Yugoslavia) - PORTO (Portugal) 1-1

Brazilian striker Jesus Renivaldo snatched an 89th minute equaliser to give Porto a 1-1 draw against Partizan Belgrade in their UEFA Cup first-round first-leg match on Thursday. Partizan had dominated from the start and took a deserved 24th minute lead through Ljubisa Rankovic, who turned in a low cross by Milivoje Cirkovic. Ivica Iliev could have added a second for the home side midway through the second half but saw his shot from outside the box bounce off the crossbar. Partizan kept coming forward but Renivaldo silenced the passionate home crowd when he scrambled the ball over the line from close range against the run of play.

NAPREDAK Krusevac (Yugoslavia) - OFI Crete (Greece) 0-0

Yugoslav outfit FK Napredak failed to overcome the absence of key striker Dejan Belic - out through illness - in a disappointing goalless UEFA Cup First Round, first-leg draw with OFI Crete at the Mladost Stadium in Krusevac.

OFI fail to make domination pay OFI took advantage of Belic's absence with a high fever to dominate the match and create a number of goalscoring chances without grabbing the vital away goal which would have made their task in the second leg much easier.

Wonderful goalkeeping performance Napredak were saved from defeat by their 21-year-old goalkeeper Jugoslav Lazic, who defied the OFI strikers time and again with a tremendous display of skill and bravery.
