Yugoslav volleyball players celebrate their first victory |
In the third round of B group in basketball Olympic tournament, Yugoslav national team defeated Angola with 73:64 (39:32).
Atlanta silver medallists Yugoslavia, who have a 3-0 record in Group B, made an uncharacteristic 13 turnovers compared to six for Angola.
The 2.09 meter Stojakovic, who plays for the Sacramento Kings in the NBA, was sidelined 11 days ago after rolling an ankle at training but played 23 minutes on Thursday, scoring 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting and grabbed six rebounds.
Head coach Zelimir Obradovic, however, rested his other regular starters for most of the game.

In the match of the third round of B group of the Olympic tournament, Yugoslav male volleyball national team defeated the USA team with 3:0 (25:15, 25:20, 25:23).
After the defeats from Russia (1:3) and Italy (2:3), this is the first Yugoslavs` victory at 27th Olympic Games.
With an excellent game in all three sets, Yugoslav volleyball players convincingly defeated the USA and won first points at the Olympics.
Although the opponent was not such a strong team as Russian or Italian, the Yugoslavs took the match seriously and ended the game in only 71 minute.
Goran Vujevic was the most efficient in the Yugoslav team with 14 points. Ivan Miljkovic and Andrija Geric had a more modest score with 9 and 10 points, while the best spiker of our team, Vladimir Grbic, won eight points.

Yugoslav male coxless pair (Nikola Stojic and Djordje Visacki) placed themselves into the finals of the Olympic Games, after winning the second place in their heat with time 6:34.93. Australian pair won the first place.
Filip Filipic, Ivan Smiljanic, Boban Rankovic and Mladen Stegic won the fifth place in their men's coxless fours group, with time 6:08.82. Thus, they will fight for a position from 7th to 12th in B finals.

Yugoslav shooters Stevan Pletikosic and Goran Maksimovic did not manage to enter the finals in men's 50m rifle (prone) of the Olympic tournament.
Pletikosic placed 30th with 591 hit circles, while Maksimovic, who shot two circles less, placed 35th.

Marica Strazmestar placed 31st out of 35 contestants in women's 200m backstroke with time 2:22.59, Nebojsa Bikic was 43rd out of 77 swimmers in men's 50m freestyle with 23.57seconds, while 16 years-old Milorad Cavic was disqualified in men's 100m butterfly heat.

Yugoslav tennis players, Nenad Zimonjic and Dusan Vemic were defeated in the first round of men's doubles at the Olympic tournament in Sydney by French double Arnaud Clement - Nicolas Escude with 6:3, 6:3.
