Ratko Nikolic, Yugoslavia's handball players

In Friday's 4th round match of group A of the Olympic handball tournament, Yugoslavia beat Cuba 33-26 (16-10).

In an uninteresting match, Yugoslav men's national handball team have easily defeated Cubans 33-26 (16-10). In the entire course of the match the Yugoslavs were superior, more confident and effective so their victory was never questioned.

Winning over Cuba, Yugoslavia secured the place in the quarterfinals of the handball tournament.

Jasna Sekaric, who took the only Olympic medal for Yugoslavia by wining the silver medal in the 10m air pistol shooting, was not successful in the women's shooting 25-meter pistol.

With 286 rounds she shared the 23rd place.

At least 291 rounds were required for the qualification in the finals.

Yugoslav coxless four (Filip Filipic, Mladen Stegic, Boban Rankovic and Ivan Smiljanic) won the second place in the B final racing.

Women's 50 metre freestyle Heat 4

Duska Radan (YUG) failed to qualify for the semifinals after winning the 4th place with a time of 27.70 seconds.

Olivera Jevtic

It can be said that the first day of athletics at the 27th Olympic Games in Sydney was "a black day" for the members of the Yugoslav national team.

Out of 7 Yugoslav athletes that took part at the Sydney Olympics, only Olivera Jevtic managed to qualify for the next round.

In the competition with 50 athletes, Jevtic finished the 11th in the women's 5,000m and qualified for the finals which are to be held on September 25.

Marija Martinovic (YUG) - 1st w: 13.48, 2nd w: 13.49, 3rd w: - . Martinovic won the 13th place.

100 METRE - Women - Round 1 - Heat 3

Vukosava Djapic (YUG) won the 6th place with a time of 12.12 seconds.

Dragutin Topic

HIGH JUMP - Men - Qualification - Group A

Stevan Zoric won the 13th place after clearing 2.15 metres.

HIGH JUMP - Men - Qualification - Group B

Dragutin Topic won the 9th place after clearing 2.20 metres.

SHOT PUT - Men - Qualification

Dragan Peric won the 9th place - 19.49 metres.

5000 METRES - Women - Qualification - Heat 2

Sonja Stolic (YUG) won the 8th place with a time of 15:38.96.

5000 METRES - Women - Qualification - Heat 3

Olivera Jevtic won the 6tp place with a time of 15:11.25. Jevtic set a new national record and advanced to 5000 metres final.
