Vienna, Austria, September 28 - Red Star Belgrade beat at a neutral venue English side Leicester City 3-1 in Vienna and reach the second round of the UEFA Cup 4-2 on aggregate.
Red Star made all the early running and deservedly took the
lead in the 22nd minute. Drulic, a constant menace up front,
raced behind a flat-footed Leicester defence before shooting
across goalkeeper Tim Flowers.
Four minutes before half time Leicester's Turkish international Muzzy Izzet equalised from close range to square the tie at 2-2.
Red Star's incisive passing carved Leicester open again two
minutes into the second half as Ivan Gvozdenovic restored their
lead with a left-foot shot past Flowers.
Drulic finished off another flowing move in the 71st minute
from a pass by Mihailo Pjanovic to give Red Star a two-goal
advantage they never looked like surrendering.
"This was the correct result," said Drulic.
"We are very satisfied, we were afraid of Leicester during
the first half but we improved in the second. They were one of
the best teams in this competition."
