Vrsac, April 18 - Winner of the Korac Cup 2000/2001 was known even before start of the match but Hemofarm did its best to win probably the last match of Korac Cup ever.

Unicaja was leading during whole first half. Hemofarm tied the score and took a lead at the beginning of 2nd quarter. In the very last minutes Unicaja showed their experience and easily took a lead again only a minute before the end. Ivanovic missed a last shot and Unicaja won the match

"We deserve this trophy. Hemofarm is a good team, but in this moment Unicaja is better. Congratulations to all fans in Vrsac and especially to Hemofarm`s players who gave tonight their best ... There is one big thing about this cup. The members of Yugoslav Basketball Association board must try to keep this cup alive. This competition was established as a remembrance on legendary player Radivoj Korac. He deserves this, and we must try to keep this tradition" (Bozidar Maljkovic, Unicaja's coach).

Malaga, SPAIN, April 11 - After reaching, in a surprising and historical way, the Korac Cup final, Hemofarm found itself 13-15 ahead with 9 minutes played.

But Unicaja started to work like a perfect machine, and with an 18-6 run (31-21) got an important lead that would never lose. And it was increased before the break, as Maljkovic's team stayed hard and got a 45-27 lead at halftime.

The second half was not worse for the Spanish side, as the already solid defense became even more solid and allowed Unicaja to wide the lead to 30 points at the end of the game, almost assuring the title of the Korac Cup.

Second leg match will be played in Vrsac, on April 18.

Belgrade, April 5 (suproleague.com) - It was a memorable basketball night in the "Pionir" Hall. But a fantastic atmosphere staged by the fans wasn't enough for Partizan to move to the quarter-finals. The better team won and it did so in great fashion.

Asvel's defense immediately sent a message to Miroslav Beric that he would not be on holiday: Partizan's captain scored his first points in the seventh minute. On the other side, Jim Bilba put on a shooting show. Asvel's veteran scored 16 points and four treys in the first half, making Partizan's centers look ridiculous.

Already playing without Nenad Canak, Partizan suffered another key loss: Nikola Bulatovic injured his ankle in the middle of a 12-0 Partizan run. The home team, defending effectively against Edwards (2-7 from the field) and Sciarra, rallied to win the half by seven points. Asvel scored only 8 points in the second quarter.

The key third quarter was all "green". Asvel produced a 15-0 run with all its stars contributing: Bilba was magnificent, earning the game MVP title. He scored another two treys (6-9, 22 pts, 5 rebs) while Laurent Pluvy (9) scored two killer treys in the decisive moments, after missing four in a row.

In the fourth, Partizan cut the deficit to four points. But Beric, smothered by Asvel's defence and lacking support from his team-mates, could not play to his usual level, (14 pts, 2-7 three-pointers) and Partizan made too many mistakes (18 turnovers) to stage a miracle. Edwards closed the game with an exclamation point, ferociously dunking the ball in Glintic's face.

Villeurbanne, FRANCE, March 29 - Asvel put the match beyond doubt after third quarter (hosts' team had a 80-50 lead). French team destroyed Partizan in a crazy third quarter (35-18) after a furious run led by Bill Edwards and Laurent Sciarra.

One of the keys of the game was the great pressure Asvel's players put on Partizan offensive star, Miroslav Beric, who had probably his worst outing in this SuproLeague. The other important factor for Asvel was the good performance of its three men - Blom (16 points), Frigout (12 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Bill Edwards (27 points with 11 for 16 field goals).

Belgrade, March 27 - The game in Belgrade had a furious start: Miroslav Beric dunked the ball and scored a quick three to give Partizan a 5-0 lead. Asvel's Bill Edwards from Asvel calmed the Pionir crowd by blocking Beric's lay-up and scoring from the arc. The American shooter was the premier French threat.

With good team defense, Asvel isolated Beric (12 pts at the half) but Nenad Canak was there to take the reins in offense (13). Coming from the bench, Bulatovic (10 pts) helped his team to get the edge after 20 minutes. But things were not running smoothly: Partizan had organisation problems with Milisavljevic often left without solutions in offense.

Darko Ruso decided to give the chance to Dragan Markovic who responded with two quick treys. But the French had their antidote in the person of Edwards. In the fourth, Sciarra continued to feed his comrades, especially Bilba. After a couple of turnovers and missed layups, Asvel earned a 6-points advantage (62-68), giving a big scare to Partizan's crowd. However, that proved to be a killer turning point: carried by Beric (25 pts at 69 %), Partizan scored on a monstrous 17-0 run to seal the game. Asvel's offense missed the crucial quarter (only 12 pts) with Bilba and Edwards missing too many open shots.

Belgrade, March 15 Without Miroslav Beric, Partizan was no match for the leader of Group B.

The game itself was one of the boring ones, since the Israelis quickly showed who was the boss. After the first quarter in which the home team resisted thanks to Nenad Canak, Maccabi took the second half by storm and solidified the lead at the half. The key to their dominance was offensive rebounding as well as a terrific performance by their point guard Derick Sharp.

In the continuation, it was a cat and mouse game. Sharp continued to shine, Huffman put in his numbers without forcing, and Curcic backed him up successfully in the paint. Maccabi demonstrated impressive depth during the whole game with all players contributing. They gradually increased their lead to finally give Partizan its first home loss.

The game began as everybody expected. Bayer Leverkusen started very confidently and put a lot of pressure defensively onto Partizan.

In the second quarter Miroslav Beric stepped up and came into the game. He and American Cotton, who had 13 points at halftime, kept Partizan alive.

But Bayer came out strong in the third quarter and nearly overwhelmed Belgrade, with Best, Evans and Lokhmanchuck showing their best basketball. In the 28th minute Leverkusen led 72-54.

However, the game was still close and Belgrade never gave up. Beric ended up scoring 23 points but was not really a factor in the game. Bayer was too strong tonight, playing a concentrated ball game for 40 minutes.

Belgrade, March 1 - Partizan crowned the win against Efes with a miraculous three-pointer from Miroslav Beric with 3 seconds to go. The Belgraders now have the same number of victories as the Turks, but will eventually suffer because of an overall weaker point difference.

Partizan's center Aleksandar Glintic, along with Ratko Varda, gave Partizan an early lead in the game, completely shutting down Husein Bessok (0 pts, 4 rebs).

Okur put on an offensive show in the second half and the previously invisible Mulaomerovic moved to the shooting guard spot where he was more at ease. Okur also completely isolated Beric. Efes won the third quarter giving the home team a big scare.

When things looked grim, Glintic, MVP of the match, came back from the bench and immediately made the difference. He scored 12 points (18 overall, 4-6 from three) and pulled down some important offensive boards, lifting his team to a sure victory. In the closing minutes, Partizan tried to reach the magical difference of 12 points. Beric scored the most incredible trey of the season with three seconds to go.

To finish second, Partizan must win the remaining two games and hope that Efes will make a blunder.

Rather than running, Belgrade set a slow pace to the game. Beric, scoring 7 points (with 100% shooting) in 6 minutes, perfectly illustrated the Belgrade club's style of play, based on patience and precision.

In the second quarter Partizan had a 37-30 lead. McCarthy, the Oostende coach, instructed his team to play zona defense. And while Belgrade missed a few shots, host team made a 12-0 run (42-37). Bulatovic was unstoppable with his penetration, but De Bel surprised Belgrade, scoring 4 points before the half (51-46).

This small lead was erased in two minutes and it was the same story as in the first half. Belgrade was trying to keep the rhythm and Oostende was trying to increase it.

In the last quarter, Oostende managed to impose its rhythm, and it resulted in an 8-point margin (88-80, 37th minute). A few mistakes helped Belgrade to come back (88-85). With the help of the sure hand of Praskevicius in the final minutes, Oostende won this crucial game for their future in the SuproLeague.

The game started with an early run of the home team, sparked by Miroslav Beric. But the Swedes established balance thanks to the inside scoring of Yohance Nicholas (20 points in the first half).

After replacing Gajic in the second quarter, Partizan's starting point guard Branko Milisavljevic brought in the needed energy in his team's game, and Beric was his usual self from outside. Partizan made a 9-0 run at the start of the second half and Plannja scored their first basket in the 26th minute. The reason for the break was incredible defence, particularly by Veselin Petrovic (9 steals!).

However, the Belgraders couldn't be sure of their success until the last minute. But it was Miroslav Beric, the MVP of the night, who led Partizan to its tenth win.

Red Star not to travel to Belgium

Belgrade, February 9 - Red Star managers decided that the team is not going to travel to the Saporta Cup eight-finals re-match against Belgium Telindus, which should have been played on February 13th.

Zoran Jovanovic, sports manager of the club, says that FIBA`s decision on fines and on re-match is at most, illogical. According to Jovanovic`s words, the incident was caused by the host, Telindus` managers were also in a fight, and the delegate did not mention that fans entered the court. The recording with the incident which was shown on Belgium television was carefully edited in order to make it seem as though the audience did not at all participate in the interruption.

Red Star will also file an appeal because of the fines for Sasa Stefanovic (10,000DM and suspension for three European matches) and for nine Red Star's first team players (3,000DM).
