Darko Kovacevic

Yugoslav football players marked the first round of the competition in UEFA Cup. In a match between two Spanish teams , Real Sociedad defeated Atletico Madrid at home by 2:1 although guests had the advantage of 1:0. Player that contributed most to this victory is Yugoslav national team player Darko Kovacevic. By the end of first half he scored tie 1:1 from a 10-meter distance. In 85th minute he confused Roberto before he hit his own net. In 90th minute Kovacevic had the chance to score his second goal but the ball hit the crossbar. In Atletico, Vladimir Jugovic played well all through the match, while another Yugoslav international player Zoran Njegus got replaced in 54th minute.

English Liverpool had the lead after the first half against Celta but Spanish team managed to change the result by the end. Yugoslav player Vladimir Gudelj scored the crucial leading goal in 90th minute. In the end it was 3:1 for Celta.

Italian Roma had hard time with Swiss Zurich and only in 90th minute, after a doubtful penalty managed to secure minimal but precious victory. Ivan Tomich, ex captain of Partizan Belgrade has been appearing more and more in the first team of Roma. In a match against Zurich he played all 90 minutes.

In the fifth round of Champion League, Inter Milano defeated Real Madrid by 3:1 in an exciting finish. It was 1:1 tie until the 86th minute when Roberto Baggio, who entered the game in the second half brought great joy to Milano fans scoring two goals. Predrag Mijatovic played well and had several good actions.
