Council of Europe Development Bank to lend €20 million to help Serbia resolve housing problems of 4,000 refugees

Feb 27 - Serbian Commissioner for Refugees Ozren Tosic said that the Commissariat is negotiating a €20 million loan with the Council of Europe Development Bank, stressing that the funding will be used to disburse soft housing loans to refugees

Kopaonik resort regulation plan presented

Feb 26 - Serbian Minister of Urban Planning and Construction Dragoslav Sumarac said that the drawing up of a plan for detailed regulation of the Kopaonik mountain resort, for which the ministry set aside 3.6 million dinars in early 2003, is now in its final stage


Finance ministry presents magazine "Finansije"

Feb 24 - The Serbian Ministry of Finance and Economy presented on Tuesday the first issue of the magazine "Finansije" since the ministry took over the responsibility for its publishing. $1.2 for capacity building in Serbian Ministry of Finance

Feb 20 - Serbian Minster of Finance and Economy Bozidar Djelic and UNDP Resident Representative in Serbia-Montenegro Francis O'Donnell signed an agreement on a one-year project on capacity building for human resources management in the Ministry of Finance and Economy, worth a total of $1.2 million


EAR assists Serbia's environmental protection with €2.7 mln

Feb 20 - Head of the Belgrade office of the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) Adriano Martins and Serbian Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andjelka Mihajlov signed on Friday an Agreement on a €2.7 million donation for the programme of building of environmental protection capacities. The project will be financed by the European Union through EAR


Reports confirm government findings in National Savings Bank case

Feb 19 - Serbian Minister of Finance and Economy Bozidar Djelic said on Thursday that reports from the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), the Ministry of Finance and Economy, and the Anti-Money Laundering Office have confirmed earlier findings of the Serbian government that the National Savings Bank (NS) is majority owned by firms controlled by some off-shore companies and that the recapitalisation did not increase NS's potential in real terms


Tourism industry posts $25 million surplus in 2003

Feb 17 - Serbian Minister of Trade, Tourism, and Services Slobodan Milosavljevic said yesterday that Serbia's tourism turnover in 2003 surpassed $150 million, with a surplus of $25 million

UNDP, SIDA assist Serbia's sustainable development strategy

Feb 10 - Serbian Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andjelka Mihajlov and UNDP Resident Representative in Serbia-Montenegro Francis O'Donnell signed on Tuesday the project document "Formulation of a Strategy for Sustainable Development of Serbia-Montenegro through Cooperation between Countries." The project, coordinated by the UNDP, will be funded by a $790,000 donation from the Swedish government, through its International Development Agency (SIDA)


Transformation of Vinca institute postponed

Feb 6 - The Serbian Ministry of Science, Technology and Development stated that a decision on the transformation of the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences will be postponed until the formation of a new Serbian government, with the aim of resolving the unnecessarily politicised situation surrounding the transformation in a sensible and peaceful manner
