Serbian government's term marked by reforms, Prime Minister Zivkovic says

Feb 26 - Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Zivkovic presented a report on the government's activities in the past three years, stressing that reforms marked the work of Serbia's first two democratic governments in the past 50 years - the government of late prime minister Zoran Djindjic and the cabinet which preserved its continuity. The outgoing government is the first-ever government in Serbia's modern history to leave several millions of euros to its successors, a funding that can be put to use once the new parliament adopts a budget law

Environmental Protection Minister opens seminar on National Environmental Action Plan

Feb 24 - Serbian Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andjelka Mihajlov opened the first in a series of six seminars on the National Environmental Action Plan (NEAP) in Vrujci on Tuesday. The seminar, which aims to help develop the National Environmental Policy and the National Environmental Action Plan, is being held as part of an EU-financed project for environmental protection capacity building


Red Cross representatives to provide assistance for asylum seekers

Feb 24 - Serbian Minister of Interior Dusan Mihajlovic and Secretary General of the Red Cross office in Serbia-Montenegro Milovan Jankovic signed today an agreement allowing Red Cross representatives to visit asylum seekers, immigrants and victims of human trafficking


Serbia wraps up real estate cadastre project

Feb 17 - The Serbian Geodetic Institute has completed a real estate cadastre and registration project in cooperation with the World Bank which is ready to disburse $21 million in interest-free loans to help its implementation


Raffarin, Blair congratulate jubilee of modern Serbian state

Feb 15 - Prime Ministers of France and Great Britain Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Tony Blair sent letters of congratulations to Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Zivkovic on the 200th anniversary of the First Serbian Uprising and creation of the modern Serbian state


Serbian government adopts national action plan for children

Feb 12 - Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Serbian government's Committee for Children's Rights Zarko Korac presented today the National Action Plan for Children, the government's strategic document which defines the country's general policy towards children by 2015


US government approves donation for combined power plant construction

Feb 10 - The US government approved on Tuesday, through the mediation of its Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), a $757,245 donation for the preparation of a feasibility study on the construction of a combined power plant for district heating in New Belgrade. The plant will operate at a capacity between 300 and 600 megawatts, and will be able to provide 250,000 homes in Belgrade with district heating


Labour Ministry presents three-year results

Feb 6 - Since its establishment in 2001, the Serbian Ministry of Labour and Employment has made every effort to reform labour and employment legislation, create and improve social dialogue, implement social welfare programmes in privatised companies and develop cooperation with international institutions, said Minister Dragan Milovanovic


USAID donates 10 waste collection trucks to Serbian towns

Feb 5 - Charge d' Affaires at the US Embassy to Belgrade Roderick Moore handed over the keys to ten Scania solid waste collection trucks on Thursday to officials from ten Serbian towns. The total value of the donated vehicles is $1 million, of which $818,000 were donated by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the rest of the funds is to be provided by the municipal authorities


"Serbia 1804-2004 - Chronology" presented

Feb 3 - Marking the 200th anniversary of the First Serbian Uprising and the creation of the modern Serbian state, the Serbian Ministry of Culture and Media presented today a project called "Serbia 1804-2004 - Chronology", which gives chronological development of the socio-political life of Serbia in the past 200 years
