BASKETBALL:
Smooth win of Yugoslavia

Toulouse, France, 21st June - In the first round of group "A" of the 31st European Basketball Championship, the Yugoslav national team beat the Israel representation with 81-61 (38-23).

With the game shown at the start of the 31st Men's Championship of the Old Continent, the Yugoslav basketball players justified forecasts of experts that they are, in spite of the absence of injured captain Aleksandar Djordjevic and Zeljko Rebraca, the greatest favourite for winning the golden medal.

The start lineup (Dejan Bodiroga, Sasa Obradovic, Predrag Danilovic, Dragan Tarlac and Dejan Tomasevic), already after 15 minutes of the game, realized the great lead (28-7) and practically determined the winner.

The head coach of the Yugoslav national team Zeljko Obradovic played almost the entire match with nine players. Only near the end he introduced until recently sick Milan Gurovic. Milenko Topic was saved from heavy efforts due to slight injury.

Due to knee injury Sacramento Kings's (USA) player Predrag Stojkovic did not play and, according to Obradovic, he will not be ready to play for the Yugoslav team till the end of group "A" matches.

Yugoslavia will play the next match against Macedonia on Tuesday 22nd June.

Location: Hall in Toulouse. Attendance: 1,000.
