Olivera Jevtic - the eight

Sao Paolo, Brazil, December 31st - The best Yugoslav athlete Olivera Jevtic did not maintain the first place which she had won in the New Year's race "Sao Silvestre" that took place in December the 31st 1998, in the Brazil town of Sao Paolo. This year she ran 15 km long track in 54 minutes and 10 seconds and won the eight place.

Jevtic kept step with the leading for the first 8 km, but could no longer follow the strong rhythm of the leading racers due to great heat and illnes from which she has not recovered yet.

"The temperature was 30 degrees, exactly 50 degrees higher than the temperature on Zlatibor where I had trained before the departure. It was simmilar last season, but I endured because I was healthy", said Olivera Jevtic after the race.

In the both competitions of the traditional race in Sao Paolo, Kenya athlets won the first places, Paul Tergat (44:36) in the male senior and Lidia Ceromei (51:29) in the female senior competition.
