Feyenoord, who opened the competiton with five successive draws, finally made a 1-0 home win over Norwegian Rosenborg and reached the last 16 of the UEFA Champions' League. Yugoslav player Radoslav Samardjic, who was a newcomer to the Feyenoord's starting line-up, set up a match-winner for his team-mate Somalia.

Yugoslav defender Miroslav Djukic backed to the Valencia's starting eleven in the last two matches of the Champions' League first round and was one of the key player. Djukic worked hard for his team and marshalled Valencia's defence well. Spanish team recorded two wins and secured top spot in UEFA Champions' League Group F.

Greek side Olympiakos beat Portuguese Porto 1-0 and, as a third-placed in the Group E, booked the ticket for the UEFA Cup. Yugoslav player in Olympiakos Predrag Djordjevic was a key midfielder, showing terrific all-round performance.

Juventus draw 1-1 at home with Levski Sofia, guided by Yugoslav coach Ljupko Petrovic, in the second leg match and with a 4-2 win on aggregate qualified for the UEFA Cup Third Round. Bulgarian team took a lead, but Yugoslav striker Darko Kovacevic secured the draw for Juventus, scoring his 7th goals in this competition.

Celta Vigo made a comfortable 2-0 home win to clinch a 4-2 aggregate triumph over Greek Aris. Celta's and Yugoslavia's defender Goran Djorovic opened the scoring in the 65th minute.

Greek AEK also qualified for the UEFA Cup Third Round thanks to the accompanying inspiration of Yugoslav Dragan Ciric, who scored both goals for his team in two matches against Hungarian MTK (1-2 in Budapest, 1-0 in Athens).


Vlade Divac celebrates
win over Minnesota

About 32,000 spectators at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo watched the clash beetween Sacramento and Minnesota. Kings successfully started the 54th NBA season defeating Timberwolves 100-95. The amazing Yugoslav player Vlade Divac finished with 13 points (4 of 13 from the field, 5-of-6 from the line), 10 rebounds (four offensive), three assists, two steals and one block. Another Yugoslav player in Sacramento Predrag Stojakovic added 11 points, two rebounds and one steals.

Scoring two goals through their striker Savo Milosevic, Zaragoza beat Alaves 2-1 and took the second place in the Spanish football League. Yugoslav forward gave Zaragoza a 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute and put the match beyond doubt in the 60th minute.

Pamesa made a sensational start this season recording a total of 17 successive wins without defeat. Team of Yugoslav coach Miki Vukovic still keeps top spots both in the Spanish basketball League, with 11 wins from 11 games, and in group B of the Saporta Cup, with all six wins.
