Red Star - Buducnost 3-2

Another trophy: Zeljko Tanaskovic (Red Star)

Belgrade, December 18 - Red Star Volleyball players won the 35th Cup of Yugoslavia, after winning in final match the team of Buducnost from Podgorica 3:2 in sets (38:36, 27:25, 14:25, 23:25, 20:18).

The Red Star reached the eight trophy after a match to be remembered. The players from Podgorica were on a threshold of a convincing defeat, since the players of Red Star won the first two sets, but they rose from the ashes as Phoenix and furiously finished the third set for their benefit 25:14. The fourth set raised about 3.000 supporters on their legs. Buducnost was leading by 9:3 and 19:13, but the Red Star made a change and made the tie score 23:23. At the very end of the match, the Buducnost players from Podgorica had more calm and succeeded in getting a chance to go to the fifth set, which was the most exciting one. After long and dramatic points, unparalleled militancy of the players of both teams and three missed match-balls for Buducnost, the Red Star team, lead by experienced Yugoslav national player Zeljko Tanaskovic, had more luck and won the match to be remembered.

After the match, the captain of Red Star Zeljko Tanaskovic said: "A hell of a match, the fortune saved us, but we also didn't lose the courage. This is probably my most favorite trophy".
