Red Star players celebrate a goal scored by Drulic

Belgrade, October 26 - Red Star Belgrade defeated Celta Vigo 1-0 before 50,000 spectators in Belgrade in their UEFA Cup Second Round first leg match.

The only goal of the game came in the 62nd minute from Goran Drulic to give the Yugoslavian champions with a fighting chance of making it to the latter stages of a European competition for the first time since they contested the 1991/92 UEFA Champions League.

Both teams had one chance to score in the first 45 minutes. Shot from 15-16 meters by Red Star player Mihajlo Pjanovic was saved by Celta's goalkeeper Cavallero, while guests` team was close to scoring through Gustavo Lopez from the free-kick.

In the second half Red Star dominated the game, attacking in waves. The highlight of the match came in the 62nd minute when striker Goran Drulic scored after nice 40-metre pass by Goran Bunjevcevic.

Only two minutes later, defender Goran Djorovic brought down Drulic in the Celta's penalty box, but referee waved play on.

Mihajlo Pjanovic failed to double Red Star's lead in the 73rd minute after Goran Boskovic's left-wing cross. His shot was deflected off Celta's defender.

Late in the second half Spanish team was close to tying the score, but hosts' goalkeeper Aleksandar Kocic proved that he is in a good form this season.
