Dokic: "I came for a Yugoslav passport"

Belgrade, November 14 (Vecernje Novosti/Reuters) - Australia's tennis player Jelena Dokic returned to her native Yugoslavia and said she wanted to live in Belgrade when playing in Europe, the Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti reported Wednesday.

"I came for a Yugoslav passport. I want to reside in Belgrade when I play tournaments in Europe. Australia is too far away to go back there all the time," 17-year-old Dokic was quoted as saying.

Dokic and her family fled Croatia in 1991 during the conflict in the former Yugoslavia and lived in the northern Serbian town of Sombor before moving on to Australia in 1994.

"I am grateful to Australia. They have helped me a lot but I always wanted to come back here. My wish has come true," she said.
