Davenport - Dokic 6-1, 6-4

Dokic returns a ball to Davenport during final

Linz, AUSTRIA, October 28 (AP) - Defending champion Lindsay Davenport won a title for the third straight week, defeating third seed Yugoslavia's Jelena Dokic 6-1, 6-4 Sunday in the final of the $565,000 Generali Ladies.

This was a repeat of last week's final in Zurich, Switzerland, where Davenport won 6-3, 6-1. The week before, she beat Justine Henin to win in Filderstadt, Germany.

Davenport has seven titles this season and has won 12 consecutive matches.

"It was closer than the score," she said. "Hopefully, I'll be fresh and ready to go on Wednesday. But, so far, I couldn't ask for anything better."

Davenport will play in the Sanex Championships, which begin Tuesday in Munich, Germany.

No player has won three titles in three weeks since Davenport captured three California events - Stanford, San Diego and Los Angeles - before winning the 1998 U.S. Open. Last season, Martina Hingis won in Filderstadt, Zurich and Moscow over four weeks.

Davenport will return to No. 2 in Monday's rankings, trailing only Jennifer Capriati.

"It's not that important," she said. "I really think Jennifer deserves to be ahead of me by winning the Slams this year," Davenport said. "I didn't perform well in our biggest tournament. I just did the best I can. I can't worry about what the computer says."

Dokic advanced to the final - her sixth this year - by defeating Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. She is ranked a career-high No. 8 entering the Sanex Championships.
