Dokic wins Florida final

Jelena Dokic

Sarasota, USA, April 7 (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia snagged her fourth career title with a straight set victory over Russian Tatiana Panova in Sunday's final at the $140,000 Sarasota Open.

Dokic wasted little time in claiming the championship at the inaugural event, disposing of Panova, 6-2, 6-2.

It was the first title of the season for Dokic, who also reached the final of the Paris Indoors in early February, but has since suffered three early exits at Antwerp, Indian Wells and Key Biscayne.

Panova, the 10th seed, defeated second-seeded American Meghann Shaughnessy, on Saturday at the Meadows Country Club to gain a berth in the final, her second of the year. She was defeated by Anna Smashnova earlier in the year at ASB Bank Classic final and has yet to win a WTA event in her career.

Dokic took home $22,000 as champion of the fist-year event.
