Partizan - Red Star 2-2

Partizan's Nadj (R) and Red Star's Boskovic fight for the ball

Belgrade, October 19 (uefa.com) - Partizan stayed top of the Yugoslavian first division after fighting out a 2-2 draw with local rivals Red Star.

Red Star, however, put their poor early season form behind them and underlined the fact that their young generation have a promising future. With an average age of 21, the red-and-whites were a goal to the good within three minutes, Branko Boskovic firing in.

Partizan captain Sasa Ilic, however, set up Ivica Iliev on the half-hour and he neatly lobbed Ivan Randjelovic to level but the visitors restored their lead after the break when Mihajlo Pjanovic converted Boskovic's weighted free-kick over the wall.

Seven minutes later, Red Star's defence was caught napping when Ilic knocked in a rebound to make it 2-2. From then on, Red Star poured forward in numbers and only a superb performance from Partizan goalkeeper Radisa Ilic saved a defeat. Albert Nadj was sent off nine minutes from time, but the visitors just could not force a winner.
