Jelena Dokic wants to play for Australia, report says

Jelena Dokic changes her mind

Sydney, AUSTRALIA, April 19 (Reuters) - Jelena Dokic wants to play for Australia at next year's Olympic Games in Athens, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

Dokic had vowed never to play for Australia again after she severed ties with her adopted country more than two years ago.

But according to the report in the Sun-Herald, Dokic has changed her mind after being told she was ineligible to represent the former Yugoslavia, who she now plays for, at the Olympics.

Tennis Australia tennis director Mike Daws told the Sun-Herald that talks with Dokic had taken place but nothing had been finalized yet.

"This is a very delicate process," Dawes said.

"We don't want to say too much at this stage, but I will say that Jelena would be very welcome to come and compete for us.

"There are no hard feelings at all. This is a personal issue for her to decide upon.

"She is still an Australian citizen so that is not an issue at all. The issue is that Jelena has to be happy."

Dokic and her family left Australia after claiming she had been betrayed by the country.

Dokic refused to play at this year's Australian Open but the newspaper reported she has changed her view about Australia after she fell out with her father Damir.
