Serbia-Montenegro to play Russia in Pool Phase

Leipzig, GERMANY, 16 May 2003 (cev.lu) – Defending Men’s European Volleyball Champion Serbia-Montenegro will meet World Championship runner-up and World League winner Russia in the preliminary round pool play of the 2003 Men’s Senior European Championships in Germany. This was the result of the drawing of lots, carried out in the Old City Hall of Leipzig, Germany on Friday.

Serbia-Montenegro and Russia were drawn in Pool I. Poland, Greece, Netherlands and Bulgaria will be the opponents of these two volleyball giants. In Pool II, Italy, Czech Republic, host Germany, Spain, France and Slovakia were drawn.

The 2003 Men’s European Championships will be held from 5 till 14 September in the German cities of Karlsruhe, Leipzig and Berlin. On Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7, the preliminary matches of Pool II will be played in Karlsruhe, while the first matches in Pool I are scheduled for Leipzig.
