Central securities register starts operation as independent legal entity

Belgrade, Jan 16, 2004 - The central securities register, charged with securities registration, clearing and settlement, started operation as an independent legal entity on Jan 1, the Serbian government said in a statement.

The central register will expand its umbrella to include shares of privatised companies which were previously handled by the Serbian Privatisation Agency's temporary register.

During the ongoing transfer of documentation from the temporary to the central register, the Belgrade Stock Exchange will not perform securities clearing or settlement.

The transfer, which started on Jan 12 and has been progressing as planned, is due to be completed shortly, with the Belgrade Stock Exchange scheduled to release this year's auction calendar on Feb 2, the statement said.
