Doctor arrested for taking bribe

Belgrade, Jan 30, 2004 - Belgrade police arrested on corruption charges a doctor of the Miroslav Zotovic state-owned rehabilitation medical centre, Laslo Svirtlih.

In December 2003, Svirtlih allegedly took €300 from a patient's relative in order to admit the old man into the hospital, and on Jan 29 this year, Svirtlih took another €100 from the patient's daughter in order to continue the treatment.

The patient's relatives had turned to the police before they gave money to the doctor. The police marked the bills which the patient's daughter gave to Svirtlih, who was arrested shortly afterwards.
