Belgrade, Feb 26, 2004 - Serbia-Montenegrin state officials attended an EU conference entitled Breaking the Barriers-Partnership to fight HIV/AIDS in Europe and Central Asia, organised by the Irish government and held in Dublin on Feb 23 and 24

The participants in the conference adopted the Dublin Declaration which should serve as a basis for more efficient cooperation in the fight of the European countries against HIV/AIDS. The document lays special emphasis on the responsibility of leaders of both the governments of European countries and the non-governmental sector, and highlights the need for their coordinated activities in the development of a strategy for prevention, treatment and care for the patients.

The Declaration also advocated fight against the violation of human rights of the people living with HIV and the critical approach to re-examination and improvement of the existing laws that are applied in the European countries.

The Serbia-Montenegrin delegation included Montenegrin Minister of Health Miodrag Pavlicic, Serbian Deputy Minister of Health Dragomir Marisavljevic and Assistant Minister of Health Zoran Maricic.

Apart from the official state delegations, the conference also hosted representatives of international organisations and the non-governmental sector, high-profile figures from the political and public life, and a large number of young people who said that they must be the key actors and agents of change in the planning, implementation and supervision of the fight against HIV/AIDS, since the young people are most affected by the epidemic.
