Fiorentina owner insists deals are on

Sinisa Mihajlovic

Florence, ITALY, January 9 (AFP) - Fiorentina president Vittorio Cecchi Gori on Wednesday insisted he will complete the signing of four players on Thursday despite the opposition of boardroom rival Luciano Luna, the football club's managing director.

Cecchi Gori told TG2 news programme deals for Lazio's Yugoslav defender Sinisa Mihajlovic, Inter Milan strikers Anselmo Robbiati and Adriano and AS Roma's Yugoslav utility man Ivan Tomic would be concluded.

"Mihajlovic is already at Florence," said Cecchi Gori.

"I have tied it up with Adriano and I think also with Robbiati, I have spoken with (Roma president Franco) Sensi about Tomic and they will be the first four players who by tomorrow should be signed.

"It's a lot of rubbish that we don't have the funds because all the players are coming on loan... I have also paid the (Florence council) arrears in rent."

Cecchi Gori's pledge seems to have dissuaded coach Roberto Mancini from carrying out his threat to resign - the former Lazio and Sampdoria star had tendered his resignation on Monday but the film mogul rejected it, vowing the promised reinforcements would arrive.

But events earlier Wednesday appeared to have scuppered that hope and put Mancini's position back in jeopardy when Luna again vetoed the signings - he had refused to sign the registration forms of Mihajlovic, Robbiati and Adriano last week.

Mihajlovic turned up for his first training stint on Wednesday and participated in the morning session but after Luna had issued his statement he was not present at the afternoon session.

In the statement co-signed by his lawyer Aldo Capuano, Luna said: "In my role as managing director... at the moment I can not and do not intend to worsen the debt by bringing in new players to the club.

"As far as my meeting on Monday is concerned Cecchi Gori has denied making any of the statements concerning me raised in the past few days.

"Cecchi Gori repeatedly and energetically told me he would immediately put at Fiorentina's disposition resources to resolve the debt and to pay the players' wages and honour tax and rent obligations to Florence city council.

"All I could do in front of such assurances was to take them on board and wait for them to be fulfilled which until now they have not been."
