Spanish Football Primera division: Mallorca - Real Sociedad 0-2

Mallorca, SPAIN, March 24 (Reuters) - A brace from the Yugoslavian striker Darko Kovacevic gave Real Sociedad a shock victory in this bottom-of-the-table six pointer.

Mallorca's excellent young striker Alberto Luque tested Sander Westerveld in the first minute, and the Argentinian forward Ariel Ibagaza then missed an open goal as the home side just about shaded the first-half.

Real played well, however, and it was clear that the Basque side had not come to settle for a draw.

And Javi De Pedro, a recent call-up to Jose Antonio Camacho`s Spain squad, went close to snatching the lead and stunning the Son Moix before half-time, as did Kovacevic.

Real finally broke the deadlock four minutes into the second-half, and it was Kovacevic who did the damage by getting his head on the end of Aitor Lopez Rekarte's centre from the right - a great goal which silenced the Son Moix crowd.

Mallorca were in desperate trouble in the 63rd minute when Kovacevic found the defence wanting, and coolly helped himself to his second.

And, although Sergio Kresic's side attempted to strike back, Real held on to secure the priceless away victory.
